The wish of every broiler farmer is for them to attain the desired weight in their broiler chickens within a short time. Which has led many of them to ask the following?

How can I make my broilers grow faster? Which feeds will make chicken grow faster? How can I make my chicken gain weight fast? etc. These are the questions frequently asked by broiler producers.

However, as I have stated in my previous articles regarding broiler weight gain, the causes of underweight in broilers have many causes such as genetics, poor welfare/management, nutrition, diseases, etc.

With respect to this, I have made several articles and some YouTube videos on broiler weight gain, which have answered some of these questions.

Notwithstanding, this article will teach you how to naturally feed your broilers for fast growth without any broiler growth promoters.

To make Your broiler chickens gain weight or grow faster, apply the following tips.

1. Feed Your Broiler Ad-libitum:

Feeding ad-libitum simply means to feed your broilers as much as possible (day and night) at least for the first two to three weeks. Not just anyhow feed, but rich quality feed.

The reason to feed this way is to attain the desired weight after the first 7 days, which will determine the rate at which your Broiler chicken will later grow. Failure to attain this weight will affect the growth of the chicken. Thus, do not underfeed or starve your broiler chickens, especially for the first 2 to 3 weeks.

In addition, use feeders that don't waste feed. Although, this may be expensive, investing in high-quality feeders that don't spill or waste chicken feed can pay off in the long run.

2. Sort Your Broiler Chickens into Groups Based on Their Body Size and Weight

As birds grow up different physical traits become more noticeable, feather color, height, gender differentiation, etc. And as usual, some are more endowed than the others, especially in their sizes and weight. In such a situation, where feeders are limited, the bigger birds will intimidate and bully the smaller ones, thus, resulting in non-uniformity in your broiler flock.

To arrest the situation, put broilers into groups based on their sizes and weight and feed them separately. This will enable the smaller ones to catch up in weight and size.

3. Ensuring They Are Eating Well:

Eating well is more than just eating consistently, but it also entails that the feed is rich with the proper nutrition for better performance. And the environment is conducive enough for proper digestion assimilation.

To ensure better feed utility, you should provide good ventilation, keep the litter dry and neat, and provide clean water always- if your broiler chicken lacks adequate water they will not eat well.

You can as well ferment your feed from time to time or give them probiotics to boost the immune system and improve the bird's appetite for fast growth.

4 Avoiding Hot Spots/Mold in Feed Silos:

During warm and humid months, mold growth can quickly occur in the broiler silos. Hot spots or patches of moldy feed sticking to the insides of the silos may produce mycotoxins and consume valuable nutrients.

To prevent this, make sure to clean and inspect silos periodically. Put drinkers closer to feeders for easy access due to their weight- but not too close to avoid spilling into the feed which can cause feed spoilage.

5 Using The Light On and Off Methods

To ensure better feed efficiency, use a light-on, light-off program. These tactics ensure your broiler chickens fully digest their feed while resting and give them enough time to consume a healthy amount of feed during light hours. While using this method, make sure there is enough feeding space for all broiler chickens to eat simultaneously

Water Consumption Rate for Layers and Broilers For Optimal Output2021-11-12T11:30:39+00:002024-03-29T06:43:22.454507+00:00Samuel Ezenwankwohttps://example.com/blog/author/chidi/https://example.com/blog/water-requirement-for-layers-and-broilers/
The quantity of water consumed by chickens is almost double the amount of feed they consume, which obviously places water as an irreplaceable ingredient or factor in poultry production.

Why is water important to Chickens?

It is almost impossible to overemphasize the importance of water to chickens. A chicken is made up of 70 percent water; a loss of only 10 percent of that water will result in the bird’s death. And, a single day without water will cause a layer to stop laying.

Also, research has shown that broiler weight and feed consumption decrease with an increase in water restriction, and a 20 percent reduction has a deleterious effect on feed conversion.

Water is a major component of blood and plays a key role in the transfer of nutrients, the removal of toxins, and heat dispersion, and is also involved in many biochemical processes. Therefore, it is paramount that we consistently give our birds quality and adequate amount of water for optimal performance.

Plenty of freshwater stimulates your broiler to grow well

Most importantly, the quantity and quality of water the chicken consumes can be affected by several factors such as the type of drinking system used, water taste, medication, weather, etc.

For example, some organic medication may repel the chicken from drinking the required amount of water, or sometimes, beddings (like wood shavings) may block the water flow of a ring drinker.

Also, the weather can be extremely hot, and there will be a need to increase the quantity of water or even the temperature as well-like adding ice cubes in very hot weather.

Having known the role of quality and adequate water in poultry farming, it is necessary we also know the quantity of water at every stage of the bird's life. Because as the birds grow the quantity of water they consume also increases.

So I am going to give you below a table guide for the water consumption rate for layers and broiler at an environmental temperature of 21 and 20 oC respectively.

How much water a laying hen needs depends on the age and production rate of the hen. For instance, for chicks from 1 to 6 weeks of age, the daily water consumption per chicken is 20 - 100ml.

Water consumption for laying hens with different production rate: When the egg production is 50%, the water requirement for laying hens is 170 -220ml per chicken per day. While at 90% production rate; is 270 - 300ml per chicken per day.

How do you calculate water consumption in poultry?

To calculate water consumption in poultry (layers), you can estimate it from the table above, or from the standards I gave in the first question.

For example, you can estimate from the table the quantity of water a chicken at 4 weeks of age can consume per day as follows;

1000 (4 weeks) old chickens will consume 200 liters of water

1 (4 weeks )old chicken will consume 1 x 200/1000 = 0.2litre = 200ml per day.

Thus, 1 chicken that is 4 weeks old will consume 200ml of water daily.

Water consumption for laying and non-laying hens

The laying hens will consume 230-300ml of water per chicken per day, while non-laying chickens will consume 200-230ml of water per chicken per day.

Water Consumption at Different Temperatures and Seasons

Cost of Rearing 500 Broilers in Nigeria With the Profit Amount2021-10-29T14:11:48+00:002024-03-29T09:02:51.682214+00:00Samuel Ezenwankwohttps://example.com/blog/author/chidi/https://example.com/blog/cost-of-rearing-500-broilers-in-nigeria/

It is needless to state that poultry farming is one of the most booming businesses in the agricultural sector in recent times. Consequently, people dive into this business with little or no background studies or training, thus making the same poultry farming mistakes several farmers have made.

One such mistake is improper record keeping like the cost of production, losses, profits, direct and indirect expenses, etc,

Without proper record keeping, you are just like a leaf floating in the air without a direction-its fate could be anywhere. The same fate awaits any poultry farmer who does not keep proper record keeping.

However, in this post, I am going to estimate the cost of rearing 500 broilers in Nigeria with its profit amount.

Although, my last post on cost and profit was on; the cost of rearing 100 broilers in Nigeria with the profit amount, and several people requested the cost of rearing 500 broilers, which we are about to dive into now.

Please, get a piece of paper, a pen, and a calculator because we are going to do some calculations.

Without any further ado, let's get down to working.

How much does it cost to rear 500 broilers in Nigeria?

Let's assume you have a structure already in place and manpower/labor will probably be done by you and your family, but I am still going to estimate it for those who may which to employ a helper. I am very certain that one helper will be enough.

These are the major expenses at the time of writing this article:

500-day-old chicks (DOC) at ₦515 = ₦257,500

2 bags of charcoal for heating the brooder = ₦8,000

2 charcoal burners (Jiko) = ₦6,000

15 bags of wood shavings@₦200 = ₦3000

Our two weeks old broiler chicks

How many bags of feed will feed 500 broilers for 8 weeks?

The table below contains the age, expected body weight, and cumulative feed intake for male and female broilers from week one to week nine.

We shall use the table to estimate the quantity of feed 500 broilers will consume for 8 weeks.

Some farmers give their broilers grower, but I don’t… I only give them a starter for 4 weeks and then a finisher to finish off.

1. How many bags of starter mash will 500 broilers consume in four (4) weeks?

So, from the table:

At 4 weeks a bird will consume between 2020g for males and 1825g for female

Average = (2020 + 1825) g/2 = 1922.5g

Therefore,

1 chick will consume 1922.5g of starter mash at 4 weeks

500 chicks will consume 961250g of starter mash at 4 weeks

1000g = 1kg

961250g= 961.25kg.

That is, 500 birds will consume 961.25kg of feed till 4 weeks

Let covert 961.25kg to bags

25kg = 1 bag= ₦6,300

961.25kg = 38.45 bags = ₦242,235

So, for the first 4 weeks, 500 broilers will consume38.45 bags of starter mash worth ₦242, 235

1. How many bags of finisher mash will 500 broilers consume for the last ( week 5 to week 8 ) 4 weeks?

feed trunk

70% of your expenses will be on the feed. You should plan for this before production

From the above table, the cumulative feed for male and female broiler at week 8 are 7400 and 6800 respectively.

Average = (7400g – 6800)g/2 = 7100g

Cumulative feed intake from 5 to 8 weeks = cumulative feed intake at 8 weeks minus (-) cumulative feed intake at 4 weeks (7100-1922.5)g =5177.5g

1 broiler chicken will consume 5177.5g from 5 to 8 weeks

500 broiler chickens will consume 2588750 g from week 5 to week 8

1000g =1kg

2588750= 2588.75kg

25kg = 1 bag = ₦ 6,500

500 broilers will consume 103.55 bags of finisher from week 5 to week 8 at ₦ 673,075

Total cost for feed = ( cost for starter mash + cost for finisher )

= (242,235 + 673,075) ₦915,310

Cost for Feeders and Drinkers

Drinkers:

3 litres drinker @₦500: 8 x500 = #4000

12 litres drinker@ ₦1,100: 8 x 1100 =₦8,800

Total = 4000+8800 = ₦12,800

Feeders:

10 Tray feeders@ ₦500: 10 x 500 = ₦5,000

12 big hanging feeders@ 800: 12 x 800 = ₦9,600

Total = 5000+ 9600 = ₦14,600

One worker @ 12,000 per month for 8 weeks = ₦24,000

Total Cost of Rearing 500 Broilers in Nigeria

Total Cost = (DOT + Plywood + Charcoal + Charcoal burner +Wood shavings + Starter feed + Finisher feed + Vaccine + Vitamin and Antibiotics + Feeder , Drinker , and a worker )

Total cost = ( 257,500+6000 + 8000+6000+282,235+673,075+6,340+28,000+14,000+12,800+24,000) ₦ = ₦1,317,950

Therefore, the Cost of rearing 500 broilers in Nigeria is ₦1,317,950

Kindly note that these are the major costs. Some costs for drinkers and feeders are capital costs, meaning they shall not be incurred in subsequent production.

In total, you need at least ₦1,317,950 to rear 500 broiler chicks for 8 weeks.

You do not need all this cash at a go to start a broiler farm, maybe you even need a quarter to start. Start now!

Profit Amount From Rearing 500 Broilers in Nigeria

So how much profit should I expect from 500 broiler chickens?

To get the profit amount you have to get the cost of rearing one bird. To get this you divide the total cost by the total number of chicks =₦1,317,950 /500 =₦ 2,635.9

Next, is to decide how much profit you should add to your cost per bird. To do this, without getting stranded in the course of selling your bird, you have to know the market prices of various sizes/weights of broiler chickens in the market.

At the time of writing this article, the market price (in my area) of birds between 2kg and 3kg per week was sold as follows;

Male broilers were sold between ( 3,800 and 4200)₦.

Female broiler was sold between (3500 and 3,800)

Average Price = 3500 + 4200 +3800/3 =₦3,833.33

Since the ideal market price is ₦3,833.33, So let assume you will sell your bird between ₦ 3800 and ₦4500

Your average price will be 3800 + 4500/2 = ₦4,150

So, you will be selling one birds@₦4,150

Remember not all birds will survive until week 8. Therefore, cumulative mortality at week 8 is assumed to be 4% when all factors are optimum.

Thus cumulative mortality shall be

500x4/100 = 20

Total surviving birds =500-20 = 480

Total sales=₦4,150 x480 = ₦1,992,000

Total sale is = ₦1,992,000

Profit = Total Sale – Total Cost

( 1,992,000- 1,317,950) = ₦674,050

The profit amount from rearing 500 broilers in Nigeria is ₦674,050

Wow! What a profit…

This profit amount obviously shows that the poultry business is a game of numbers. The higher the number of birds, the greater the profit.

However, before you think you expanding your flock you should ensure you have the available structure, capital, managerial skill, labor, good poultry record keeping, and a sizable market as well. With all these things in place, you are good to go.

I am wishing you a successful and bountiful poultry farming this season

How to Choose the Best Broiler Breed For Optimal Performance2021-04-27T21:29:10+00:002024-03-29T10:17:45.712618+00:00Samuel Ezenwankwohttps://example.com/blog/author/chidi/https://example.com/blog/how-to-choose-the-best-broiler-breed-for-optimal-performance/
Choosing the best broiler breed is a crucial step you have to take care in ensuring you have a successful production. This is because when the best broiler breed is selected correctly for the intended purpose, all other resources and time invested in the production will probably do well.

The reverse is the case when the wrong/bad broiler breed is selected- Your time and money will be wasted. I had a client that her supply was a mixture of different breeds, they all seem like broiler until after two weeks when she noticed their growth was not in uniform. The problem at times might be from the hatchery, or from our misconception about the broiler breed.

Also read: How To Make Broiler Chicken Grow Faster

Let us correct this Misconception: Referring to Hatchery name as Breed name

What is the difference between a Hatchery name and a Breed name?

Hatchery names like Agrited, CHI, Amo, etc (are some hatcheries in Nigeria) are names or brand names of companies that market a particular broiler breeding stock ( Parent stock).

The name given to this broiler breeding stock by its creator is known as the Breed name. eg Cobb 500, Ross 308, Arbor acres, Hubbard, and Marshall are common broiler breed names in Nigeria.

What then is the Misconception?

The misconception here is that most broiler keepers have replaced the breed name with the brand or hatchery name. In Nigeria, you can hear people say I want Agrited, or Agrited is the best instead you say, I want Ross or Ross is the best. What if Agrited decides to market another broiler breed, will the new breed have the same feature as the old one? Your guess is good as mine. The same scenario can be observed between Arbor (a breed name) and CHI (a hatchery name).

Let us look at the various hatchery in Nigeria and their broiler breeds

Selecting The Best Broiler Breed

Selecting the best broiler breed will depend on what features, or characters you are interested in the broiler breed. However, all breeds are unique in their own way, and there is no breed without its own “ Achilles’ heel” but certain breeds are more balanced than some in general -having a bit of every available cookie.

Nevertheless, we are going to look at the common broiler breeds in Nigeria with their special features to enable you to make an informed decision on which breed best fits your intended purpose.

Here are the attributes of Cobb 500 as documented by Cobb-Vantress, the research company that created Cobb 500.

“ The word’s most effective broiler has the lowest feed conversion, best growth rate, and an ability to thrive on low density, less costly nutrition. These attributes combine to give the Cobb500 the competitive advantage of the lowest cost per kilogram or pound of live-weight produced for the growing customer base worldwide”

Other attributes include:

Lowest cost of live weight produced

Superior performance on lower-cost feed rations

Most feed efficient

Excellent growth rate

Best broiler uniformity for processing

Competitive breeder.

2.Attributes of Ross 308

Here are the attributes of Ross 308 by Its creator, Ross Avigen

Consistent performance with the versatility to meet a broad range of end-product requirements.

2.Produces a high number of eggs combined with good hatchability.

More muscle mass and robust performance.

Rapid growth, the possibility of early slaughtering.

The gain of body weight per day at the right breast and the content ranges from 52 to 58 grams. Powerful muscle mass broiler chickens ROSS 308 is formed at an early age. The optimal time for slaughtering the breed is considered to be age 6 and 9 weeks. At this point, the chickens have to weigh up to 2kgs.

Note: Ross and Abor Acre are both created the same company Aviagen with similar features. However, Abor Acre plus (AA+) is a special breed bred to produce chicken efficiently through consistent parent performance, excellent broiler performance, and good processing yield.

Let see if these features and attributes are in conformity with scientific researches and with experts' views.

(Stafie, 2011) conducted research titled “Alternative to broiler Chickens Breeding in Peasant Households” He made use of the three breeds of broilers frequently used in Romania, which are Cobb 500, Ross 308, and Hubbard Flex. These were his findings and conclusion:

On Cobb 500

Require special care to maintain the hybrid atmospheric conditions (microclimate) round the breed in accordance with guidelines of operation

High-speed growth will increase sensitivity causing an increase in permanent bedding, therefore, litter should be maintained in optimal conditions

Since it has a high capacity feed intake, a light program can be applied with a long dark.

Cobb 500 has a high yield at slaughter due to its breasted meat attributes

A major disadvantage of this hybrid of meat is that its high speed of growth is associated with the sudden death syndrome of chickens.

On Ross 308

Ross 308 hybrid has been created for the production of the chest and the legs are quite shapely.

It requires a more expensive feed to gain performance but presents a better resistance to the microclimate.

A high percentage of parents lay against the Cobb 500 and the fact that the hatching percentage is higher. This is in conformity with the claim of Ross Avaigen that the Ross 308 hybrid lay more egg optimal hatchability

On Hubbard Flex

Hubbard meat Hybrid Flex is a hybrid that is well adapted to conditions of food and microclimate empirical but not to expect great performance if you are not providing the necessary point of view of technology.

What is the difference between Cobb and Ross?

This is the major difference between Cobb 500 and Ross 308, however, they are both created to grow fast with heavy chest meat.

Cobb 500 requires exacting management technology with a prescription cheap fodder. That is Cobb 500 is not choosey when it comes to feeds quality. You can attain production the targeted weight with low feed cost, but be sure their welfare and management are at top-notch.

Ross 308 requires a well-balanced feed, and more expensive but in terms of management does not pose special problems. They can survive relatively microclimate conditions when compared to Cobb 500.

Hubbard flex is a hybrid that does not raise any claim in terms of management and technology in terms of feeding.

The table below compared the body weights of each hybrid and feed consumption for a kg of live meat.

We can see from the research summary, some of these findings were in conformity with the features and attributes of both Cobb 500 and Ross 308, but their disadvantages were not mentioned by their creator.

In addition, let see what other experts found out in their researches

(Simona et al, 2017) on their research on the “Evaluation of productive performances in Ross 308 and Cobb 500 hybrid” concluded that the feed conversion index was in favor of cobb hybrid against Ross 308 hybrid, but the two registered values were very close.

Lobago et al, (2003) on their comparative performance of Cobb 500 and Ross 308, that there was a relatively higher marginal revenue and a lower marginal cost was obtained for Cobb-500 than for the Ross chickens. It was concluded that the Cobb 500 had better overall performance than the Ross under the present small-scale production system in Debre Zeit.

However, selecting the best broiler breed will depend on the farmers’ wishes and purpose. Some may want Cobb 500 for its low feed cost, while some may want Ross 308 for its low management approach.

But in general, Cobb 500 slightly edged over Ross 308 in terms of all-around qualities and performance. Nevertheless, there is no broiler breed without its ‘Achilles heel’.

7-week old broiler with an average weight of 2.5kg

Speaking of marketing, it was on a cool evening during my Q&A session with my audience when a lady chatted me up complaining about how she finds it difficult to sell her broiler chickens of 9 months, that if I can help her with a buyer, and I told her I will get back to her, which I did, but things didn’t work out fine and she had to transport her birds back because the offer was poor.

She obviously, ran into loss considering the transportation fee alone, which is about ₦10,000.

The lady in question made a major mistake which is putting production first before marketing. So, to avoid similar situations you have to explore all possible means of selling your broiler chickens before any production, especially during festive periods like Christmas, Easter, Sallah, and Thanksgiving.

Attaining the expected weight in your broiler chicken is the first step you have to take from day one to ensure you have profitable sales. Your broiler chickens should meet the expectations of your prospective customer in terms of weight, height, and neatness.

If your broiler chicken is neat with an attractive weight and height, it can pull a potential customer from your competitor to your store. This is one of my secrets in selling my broiler chickens very fast. Customers love neat and graceful chicken irrespective of the size.

How do I attain the expected weight in my broiler chicken?

For you to attain the expected weight you have to know what the expected weights are. In this case, you will need a broiler expected weight chart per week to enable you to monitor the growth progress of your broiler chickens, then together with good management practices, medication, and quality feed and with plenty of clean water.

Besides, make ensure you harness the genetic potential (Fast growth rate) of your broiler chickens within the first 7-days for optimal growth.

And again, to crown your effort, make sure you change your litter regularly to attain that perfect neat white feathers in your broiler with a touch of red comb and wattle, which will melt the heart of your prospective customers.

2. Locate your target market and customers before production:

Putting production first before marketing is a mistake that is common among small or backyard poultry farmers, especially during broiler production. Putting production first without locating your prospective buyer and market is a move that will leave you stranded.-have it in mind that broiler is a fast-growing chicken.

My dear poultry farmers ensure you locate your market and prospective customers and buyers before you start any production. You can visit schools, restaurants, hotels, etc. Present your proposal to them, and give them reasons why they should buy from you.

These reasons should be based on your background check on what your prospective customer prefers-some may prefer soft meat while others may prefer hard and mature meat. Just make sure your reasons and offers are convincing and attractive enough to pull the deal through.

However, not all deal will pull off, but I assure you consistency is the key, one day they are going to give you a call. I have seen this happened several times.

3. Market and sell your broiler chicken via social media.

A smartphone displaying several social media Apps

Social media is no doubt the fastest medium to sell and market your product or brand in this 21 century.

The number of people using social media daily is increasing drastically. Social medial statistics from 2019 show that there are 3.5 billion social media users worldwide. That equates to about 45% of the current population. (Emarsys, 2019).

So tell me, why should you be left out? Why not join the moving train and enjoy the endless possibilities in the social media platform. It has a very low entry, you don’t have to pay much to use it.

All you need is just a smartphone, and you can get a good one as low as ₦20,000 (53$). Then proceed to sign up with several social media handles like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Whatsup, Linkedin, etc.

Social media is growing in terms of its impact and effectiveness, and statistics have attested that 54% of social browsers use social media to research products. (Globalwebindex, 2019).

More buyers are engaging in social media networks and looking for reviews and recommendations. This is the more reason you should have an online presence on several social medial platforms. The point is to find out which social medial platform your target market is using most often and plan how to leverage it.

4. Process your broiler chicken and sell

If you have the resources and labor, you will make more profit when you process and sell your broiler chicken. This method is also useful in a situation where you cannot find a potential buyer at hand and you cannot afford to keep feeding your broiler. However, processing it is not enough, you have to let people know about it as well.

Take neat pictures of your processed chicken meat, make a video, and place them on social medial, you will be surprised at the outreach and response you will get.

This is the best time in Nigeria to process you broiler chicken since the government has placed a ban on imported processed chickens.

The Coordinator of natnudO Foods’ Broiler Out grower Scheme tagged natnuPreneur, Mr. Gbolade Adewole, has disclosed that only 30% of chicken consumed in Nigeria every year is produced locally.

He also added that as a result of the production deficit in the chicken market, Nigeria loses close to ₦600 billion to chicken importation and smuggling in addition to the dreadful health implication of consuming imported chicken.

You and I can have our share from the billion being lost to chicken importation and smuggling if the government can support the poultry farmers and make sure the chicken importation and smuggling are properly checked.

5. Take advantage of the festive season:

If you are a small scale farmer, office worker, or trader, this method is basically for you. This is because as a worker or trader, you might not have that full time to market your product as a full-time poultry farmer to make an appreciable profit, but you can leverage on the festive seasons like Christmas, Easter, Sallah, etc.

Because during the festive season, demand is normally high and buyers are readily available, even in your neighborhood, you can easily find enough buyers for your broiler chickens.

All you have to do is to order for your broiler chicks 2 to 3 months before the festive period. If you are skilled at brooding, you can order for day-old chicks or better still order for 3 weeks old if you haven’t brood before.

And again, let out words to your neighbor, colleagues, family, and friends, tell them about your poultry business and you be surprised at how much they will patronize you.

6. Use middlemen to sell your broiler chickens:

If you want to sell your chickens fast make use of middlemen, but they take most of the profits. Middlemen buy in bulk and can sell directly to consumers or other sub-middlemen like the retailers. On the other hand, if you want to make more profit you can have your retail outlet where you can sell directly to consumers.

7. Selling on an E-commerce platform.

Uber is a popular E-commerce platform

This is another way of increasing your online presence since the market is now going digital. An E-commerce platform is a third party market place where anything can be sold. However, there is a competitor, especially for products that fall into certain categories, although, the chicken category has a fair competition compare to other categories.

An E-commerce platform is a great way to sell your broiler chickens if you don’t have an appreciable start-up budget. These are free to join and they earn their money by keeping a certain percentage of each transaction.

One thing you are going t to enjoy from this site is the traffic that these large platforms already enjoy and also take advantage of any payment protection policies, technical troubleshooting, or medical services that may be offered. Examples of some E-commerce in Nigeria include Afrimash, tad farm, Uber, Agromarket, Jiji.ng –livestock/poultry. Join one today and increase your sale and online presence.

8. Make use of home delivery services:

Who doesn’t love home delivery service? it saves a lot of time and energy. There are some categories of people who need such services. You have to locate them and present your proposal. Give them reasons why they need your service, and I tell you, if you do your job very well it will be difficult for them to reject your proposal.

Most of these people are too busy to go to the market, and they will be glad to have you serve them. Example of such people is bankers, civil servants, businessmen, and women, in fact in general, those people whose work premises is far away from the market and who find it stressful to go to the market.

You can even extend your services to physically challenged or sick people who cannot go to the market to buy chicken meat.

9. Give free products to influencers and charity homes

This method is more suitable for established farmers. This method works all the time. It is one of my best ways of reaching potential customers. Periodically you can give free products to influencers around your farm area, like the traditional ruler, principal, women leader, etc.

You can also be charitable to the less privileged like motherless babies’ homes, the sick and the poor, school, etc. These groups of people will put in a good word about your good deeds, which will indirectly increase the visibility of your business. Do this and watch your business grow.

10. Sell your broiler chicken in a larger market

Don’t limit yourself to your community market. Most of the time customers in your locality will tend to price your chicken below cost price and in the end, you will be at their mercy and be forced to sell.

So, to avoid such a situation you have to look for a larger market bigger than your supply, such that even 1%-5% of the market buy from you should be able to make enough profit.
